Even when thoroughly washed, a plastic cutting board can quickly become stained and yellow over time. Fortunately, a few simple tips can easily restore its shine.
Even after a good wash, does your cutting board still look marked, yellowed, or dull? This is a very common problem in many kitchens. Between tomatoes, carrots, spices, and certain highly staining foods, plastic cutting boards quickly end up showing unflattering marks that give an impression of dirt… even when they’re perfectly clean. Fortunately, a few very simple home remedies can restore them to their former glory without any effort or complicated products.
Why do plastic cutting boards get stained so quickly?
At first glance, the plastic appears smooth and easy to clean. However, it has tiny imperfections invisible to the naked eye that easily retain pigments, food residue, and certain odors.
Each knife cut also creates small marks on the surface. Over time, these micro-scratches become veritable dirt traps where traces of food accumulate.
Result: even after wiping with a sponge, the board may retain a yellowed appearance, orange marks or a lingering unpleasant odor.
This is why a simple, regular wash isn’t always enough. A more thorough cleaning from time to time will restore it to a much cleaner appearance.
