The results came back hours later.
When the doctor saw them, his face changed immediately.
“Where did you get this sample?”
Eliana’s heart pounded. “Why?”
The doctor held the paper closer to her. “The sample contains a toxic compound in small doses. A single dose won’t kill you,
but over time it damages the nervous system and liver.” Eliana gasped. “So the baby was dying a slow death?”
The doctor looked at her seriously. “Whoever did this wanted the baby to appear to be a normal patient.”
She left the lab feeling like the ground was spinning beneath her.
But the real shock came when she opened the envelope containing the test results.
The name of the toxic substance was familiar.
She’d seen it before in an old medical file in the office of the foreign doctor who had been treating Ryan!
So the doctors weren’t stupid.
The doctors knew.
