Vivian watched me constantly from across the ballroom.
Smiling.
Waiting.
Finally, unable to stand it anymore, I picked up the box.
It was strangely light.
Inside was an old gold pocket watch.
My husband’s pocket watch.
My late husband had carried it every day until the week before he died.
I nearly dropped it.
Because we buried him with that watch.
Or at least… I thought we did.
Beneath the watch sat a folded note written in elegant handwriting I recognized instantly.
