As they spoke, the woman mentioned names, places, and family events that Emily recognized from old photographs and childhood stories.
But then she casually referred to someone Emily had never heard of.
“Your uncle Michael always looked after everyone.”
Emily frowned.
“My mother never had a brother.”
The woman suddenly grew quiet.
“I thought you knew.”
Searching for the Truth
That evening, Emily couldn’t stop thinking about the encounter.
She called her mother and carefully repeated the conversation.
To her surprise, her mother didn’t dismiss it.
Instead, she became unusually quiet.
After a long pause, she said,
“I think it’s time we talked.”
